Have you heard about the motion of Becker in the Dutch politics? Trying to implement research into the culture and religious background of the multicultural citizens in the Netherlands. It’s something that doesn’t surprise me, it makes me curious and cautious at the same time. With the new cabinet we knew that a new era would begin and somehow still people are surprised by it. Not everyone is able to read more than meets the eye. Not even when it comes to history. While I was reading an article about the Indonesian politics of Soeharto, I had a show playing on my laptop called The Kennedy’s. You can watch the show on YouTube, unfortunately you can not stream it on another platform. Watching the Kennedy’s I became curious about Kennedy and Indonesia, as it is impossible to explain one decade by itself, it’s always about what happened before. What happened before wasn’t allowed to happen again. Which was exactly what the 70s all about. First, eliminating the power of the 60s, establishing new power, next eliminating everyone who supported the opposition. Indonesia became more independent in the 60s with Sukarno as president, so that’s what’s next on my reading list. First I need to find some new research, with the Kennedy reading material about Indonesia may be more fascinating than I’ve imagined. Let’s just hope that reading and writing about my culture isn’t something the establishment would want to investigate soon.
